A TheYouthTalks Intelligence Brief | India’s Top 100 Gen Z Brands 2026

For years, the gaming industry has competed on increasingly familiar metrics.

Better graphics.

Larger maps.

More content.

Faster updates.

The underlying belief has remained unchanged: build a better game, and players will stay.

Gen Z is revealing a more important truth.

Our survey of more than 5,000 Indian college students suggests that young players are not simply choosing games because they are entertaining. They are choosing worlds where they can improve, compete, belong and build a reputation.

Gaming is no longer just a form of entertainment.

It has become one of the most powerful ecosystems for personal mastery.

The Big Finding: Being Played Isn’t the Same as Being Loved

Nazara Technologies emerged as the most widely used gaming brand among students in our research, reflecting its strong market presence and accessibility.

But when respondents were asked an entirely different question—“Which gaming brand do you genuinely love?”—the answers shifted dramatically.

Nearly half of all respondents spontaneously named Riot Games despite considerably lower overall usage, making it the category’s strongest emotional brand. Community-driven names such as PUBG Mobile/BGMI, GodLike Esports and Global Esports also demonstrated unusually high emotional affinity among active players.

The distinction is significant.

Distribution gets players through the door.

Meaning keeps them inside.

The brands creating lasting loyalty are not necessarily the ones played most often.

They are the ones players feel proud to identify with.

Gaming Has Entered the Mastery Economy

TheYouthTalks’ Love Score measures how effectively brands convert usage into emotional preference.

Within gaming, this score captures something unique.

It measures whether a platform becomes part of a player’s identity.

The strongest-performing brands are rarely those offering the largest number of features.

Instead, they create environments where players can continuously improve.

Every rank earned.

Every tournament entered.

Every difficult victory.

Every achievement unlocked.

These moments transform games into deeply personal journeys.

Gen Z increasingly returns not because there is more content to consume, but because there is another version of themselves waiting to be discovered.

Gaming has become an economy built on progress.

Great Games Challenge Players. Great Communities Keep Them There.

The survey also challenges the stereotype that Gen Z simply chases flashy graphics.

Gameplay quality and graphics emerged as the strongest purchase and engagement driver.

But value for money and, perhaps more importantly, the presence of friends and community together account for most of the remaining decision.

That combination reveals something profound.

Players initially choose games for quality.

They stay because of people.

Communities increasingly determine which games survive long after launch.

In gaming, relationships have become a competitive advantage.

Every Player Is Also a Creator

Gaming has quietly become one of Gen Z’s most social activities.

More than four in five respondents reported influencing the gaming choices of friends, while every respondent could immediately name a favourite gaming brand.

That level of spontaneous recall is remarkable.

Unlike traditional media, gaming naturally encourages recommendation.

Players recruit teammates.

Share strategies.

Create clips.

Stream gameplay.

Celebrate victories.

Every passionate player becomes part of a brand’s growth engine.

For companies, the community is no longer a marketing channel.

It is the product.

The Next Gaming Leaders Will Build Worlds, Not Titles

The first generation of gaming companies competed through technology.

The next generation will compete through belonging.

As graphics become easier to replicate and gameplay mechanics increasingly converge, emotional ecosystems will become the defining competitive advantage.

Players will stay where they can grow.

Where they are recognised.

Where their achievements matter.

The future belongs to brands capable of building worlds that players never want to leave.

Three Strategic Lessons for Gaming Leaders

1. Entertainment Creates Downloads. Mastery Creates Loyalty.

People may install a game because it looks exciting.

They continue playing because it rewards improvement.

2. Communities Are the Ultimate Competitive Advantage.

Games become unforgettable when friendships, rivalries and shared experiences develop around them.

Strong communities create switching costs that technology alone cannot.

3. Every Achievement Deepens Emotional Investment.

Progression systems, recognition and meaningful competition transform casual users into lifelong advocates.

The brands that reward growth ultimately build stronger loyalty.

Monday Morning Memo for Gaming Leaders

Before designing your next season, tournament or update, ask three questions.

  • Does our game help players become better versions of themselves?
  • Are we building features—or building a community that players feel proud to belong to?
  • If the graphics became average tomorrow, what emotional reason would players still have to return?

Those answers will shape your future far more than your next content update.

TheYouthTalks Verdict

India’s gaming industry is entering the mastery economy.

The next generation of market leaders will not be defined solely by better graphics, larger budgets or more content.

They will be remembered for helping players grow.

Gen Z increasingly chooses gaming brands that reward progress, foster community and create lasting identities.

The brands that understand this shift will move beyond developing games.

They will build places where an entire generation learns what it feels like to improve, compete and belong.

Because in the future of gaming, players are not simply chasing the next victory.

They are chasing the next version of themselves.
