A TheYouthTalks Intelligence Brief | India’s Top 100 Gen Z Brands 2026

For nearly a decade, the influencer economy has operated on a simple assumption.

The bigger the creator, the bigger the brand.

Follower counts became proxies for trust. Reach became the dominant metric of success. Marketing conversations revolved around impressions, engagement and visibility, with the belief that audience attention would naturally translate into long-term consumer loyalty.

Gen Z is quietly proving otherwise.

Our survey of more than 5,000 Indian college students suggests that the brands winning distribution are not always the brands winning affection. Young consumers are increasingly separating products they buy from brands they genuinely admire.

The next generation of influencer-owned brands will not compete for attention alone.

They will compete for belief.

The Big Finding: Being Used Isn’t the Same as Being Loved

Tira Beauty emerged as the most widely used influencer-owned brand in our research, reaching nearly one in four respondents.

Yet when students were asked a simple, unprompted question—“Which influencer-owned brand do you genuinely love?”—the category shifted dramatically.

Kay Beauty emerged as the strongest emotional brand, while names such as Plum Goodness and Hyphen demonstrated a greater ability to convert everyday customers into passionate advocates.

The distinction matters.

Distribution creates awareness.

Emotional connection creates loyalty.

A brand may occupy thousands of shopping carts.

Only a few earn a permanent place in consumers’ minds.

For the next generation of influencer-owned brands, that gap may become the single most important measure of long-term success.

The Love Economy Has Arrived

At TheYouthTalks, we measure this difference through our Love Score—the relationship between brand usage and unprompted consumer preference.

Within influencer-owned brands, the score reveals a truth that traditional market share often misses.

Some brands successfully transform trial into advocacy.

Others simply accumulate transactions.

The Souled Store stands among the strongest performers, converting broad usage into equally strong emotional preference. Tira Beauty tells a different story. Despite exceptional visibility and accessibility, its emotional affinity trails significantly behind its reach.

The lesson is simple.

Attention can be purchased.

Affection must be earned.

Great Products Outlast Great Personalities

Influencer marketing has often been criticised for creating brands built on personality rather than product.

Our findings suggest Gen Z evaluates them differently.

Product quality and uniqueness emerged as the strongest purchase driver, followed by attractive pricing and alignment with personal style.

Together, these factors account for the overwhelming majority of purchase decisions.

The implication is significant.

Creators may inspire discovery.

Products determine whether customers stay.

For influencer-founded businesses, celebrity can accelerate awareness, but only product excellence can sustain growth.

Recommendation Is Becoming the New Media Channel

Gen Z rarely shops alone.

More than seven in ten respondents said they influence the purchasing decisions of friends and family, while two-thirds reported recommending or helping others switch brands.

This creates an entirely different model of brand growth.

Recommendations travel faster—and further—than advertisements.

But recommendations are earned.

Students proudly talk about brands that reflect their identity and consistently deliver quality. Brands such as Kay Beauty, Plum Goodness and Hyphen increasingly benefit from this behaviour because customers do more than purchase them.

They promote them.

In the influencer economy, the strongest marketing campaign increasingly begins after the transaction.

Every Brand Occupies a Different Position

Viewed through both usage and emotional preference, the category naturally separates into three strategic groups.

Champions such as Kay Beauty, Plum Goodness and Hyphen successfully convert awareness into lasting loyalty.

Workhorses including Tira Beauty, I AM SASSY and WTF! Burger enjoy widespread adoption but face an important challenge: consumers use them more often than they truly advocate for them.

Meanwhile, Niche Darlings like Huemn demonstrate that smaller brands can build extraordinary emotional equity long before achieving mass scale.

The brands that move from one category to another will shape the next chapter of India’s influencer economy.

Three Strategic Lessons for Influencer-Owned Brand Leaders

1. Reach Creates Trial. Belief Creates Loyalty.

Large audiences can introduce products.

Only meaningful consumer experiences create lasting relationships.

2. Creators May Start the Conversation. Products Finish It.

Influence attracts the first purchase.

Quality earns the second.

3. Advocacy Is More Valuable Than Visibility.

The brands consumers proudly recommend will always outperform those consumers merely recognise.

Monday Morning Memo for Influencer-Owned Brand Leaders

Before planning your next product launch or creator campaign, ask three questions.

Are consumers buying us because of the creator—or because of the product?

If the influencer stepped away tomorrow, what would customers still love about our brand?

Are we building awareness, or are we building advocacy?

The answers may determine whether your brand becomes a lasting business—or simply a successful campaign.

TheYouthTalks Verdict

India’s influencer economy is entering a more mature phase.

The next generation of winning brands will not be defined by follower counts, viral campaigns or celebrity founders alone.

They will be defined by their ability to convert attention into trust, purchases into recommendations and customers into communities.

Gen Z increasingly rewards brands that stand on their own merit—brands whose products remain valuable even after the social media post disappears.

Because in the future of influencer-owned brands, influence may spark discovery.

But belief will determine who lasts.
